I had a cake for my birthday, but these had to make do as the candles. Marcelle and our Vancouver (ie. Chinese) friend Veronica chose a beautiful dan gao (egg cake, as opposed to the standard sponge). It had fruit, white icing, and I hear it was beautifully decorated and graced with my name. Unfortunately, the charming servers at Lily Vegetarian Restaurant sliced it all up before I had a chance to appreciate its appearance. Too bad! It was still delicious. I was also the only person to receive a plate, instead of a napkin. That's birthday service baby.
